time bomb

i feel like a walking time bomb - once i explode everything in my wake will be altered forever. don't stand too close or you might catch a little shrapnel in the thigh. or at least find a little amniotic fluid on your shoe.

we're still a good 1.5 weeks until 'show time' and i honestly don't think i'll be popping before then. although if you saw me you'd think i was a good 2 months past my due date. luckily i feel pretty good and am staying active. maybe a little too active.

even though i'm officially done with weddings until the fall paul and i have been working our booties off around the house (bathroom, 'baby's room'). we have been too exhausted too many nights in the recent past to be ready for labor to strike at any moment. what's the point in all the preparing for birth if we're useless when it hits us? time to slow down and appreciate the relative quiet we've got going on right now.

everything else is good. tomatoes are almost taller than me (7' last year!) - rain should keep them going for a while. still no red fruit. patty pan squash are looking and tasting fantastic. artichokes still haven't bloomed + i'm worried they may not.

just to brighten things up a bit i'm including some wedding photos i received from photographers recently. these are some of the flowers i've done this year. i'm in the process of collecting a bunch so i can update my website again. it's never ending + i'm never satisfied. curses!

What goes around...

SO - here i am setting up a blog for those who might be interested in learning more about the expansion of our little family.

a little background:

living in east austin in a home we've dubbed 'el patito feo' (the ugly duckling for those of you not from TX), even though it's become quite a funky goose in the last couple of years. bathroom renovation is the final 'piece of resistance' (you can take that either way) for all involved (namely paul).

our four cats (yikes!) are all outdoor only now + we are now marveling at the number of fleas we're finding in the house this season. pretty freaking sweet. what is actually sweet are the wandering chickens that just showed up on our street. i love a chicken.

paul's doing his graphic design/screen printing work (www.thedecoderring.com) when he's not playing kickball (viva los bolillos!!), skating bowls, sneaking off to the coast, or pulling weeds.

erin's been doing wedding flowers (www.rosehipflora.com) when she's not reading, practicing yoga, walking or doing kegel exercises. oh, did i mention she's been doing wedding flowers while simultaneously gestating? pretty tricky. hence the reading, yoga, walking, kegels and not the usual beer swilling that used to occupy her free time. soon, very soon.

that's us in a nutshell. expecting baby girl sometime around june 8th - hopefully earlier rather than later. this weekend is my last to work until the fall, which is exciting and scary. you can guess which of us is excited and which is scared. we can't wait to meet 'sprout', or 'mullet' as paul's taken to calling her lately. i get the feeling she's getting more anxious to meet us too. i now know what a 'pain in the cervix' is all about.
